Hazel is Painting up a Storm!

This Fall is very busy… I participated in 5 different shows for the month of November! My solo show is hung and ready for viewing at Realty Trust in Lake Oswego. Thanks to their generous gift of gallery walls for local artists. They really do a wonderful job of supporting the Arts.

Please come by to see nearly 40 of my paintings during Realty Trust office hours in December. New paintings added as they dry!

… Ok I have to admit that our trip to Greece and Italy was fantastic. I came back with no less that 1500 photos to sort my way through. Everything was so magnificent that I just kept my camera out and kept shooting! I look forward to many paintings from these pics.

Boats have always been a favorite of mine. I love to be in them, and paint them! Sunrise and sunset are such a magical time of day no matter what body of water you are on. I love what happened in this painting. One of those Aha! moments that you feel when you capture the light.

September Plein Air

Wow can you believe summer is almost over? I have been busy toting my easel around this month to catch the last rays of September. An opportunity to paint in Manzanita,Oregon again is always a favorite of mine. In this plein air piece I tried to capture the feeling of ocean haze as a background to the somewhat languid motion of the early evenings set of waves.

Here are two plein paintings done at an Eric Jacobsen workshop held on magnificent Sauvie Island northwest of Portland, Oregon. Painting opportunities are so plentiful on this island that it is difficult to choose a site. The fields are very vibrant and full of rhythm and patterns. But what a hot day and no shade which is all in the challenge of plein air painting.

YEAH! Two Plein Air paintings to be in PAPO Exhibit

I am excited to be accepted in the juried 2009 PAPO Celebrating Oregon exhibit at High Desert Gallery in Bend, Oregon. This year I have two paintings in the show.

My 9x12 plein Air “Manzanita Beach”oil painting was created this spring while enjoying a view of the amazing evening sky from an overlook on a wind sheltered sand dune. The weather had been shifting all day from showers to sun and at the remains of the day came this inspirational show of color as the sun went down. It was one of those moments when you run to get your paints!

My 9x12 plein air oil painting “Summer in Plein Air” is the view from just outside of my studio on the Willamette River. The Willamette River usually has a very earthy green cast but on this beautiful sunny July day the river reflected an amazing sky blue which lit up the water with an infrequent azure cast. The life and changes of the seasons on the river are a constant inspiration for my plein air paintings.

They will be on display at High Desert Gallery in Bend, Oregon October 2-31, 2009 and then the exhibit moves to High Desert Gallery in Redmond, Oregon for November 1-30, 2009. If you are in the area go check it out!

New in July: Italian Sunflowers

Here's the latest off my easel. Looking forward to another trip to Italy in the Fall, this time to Puglia, the less travelled region in southern Italy's "heel". Painting this piece got me in the mood! 18 x 36. Time for a glass of wine. Ciao!

Just for kicks

“Just for kicks” I brought out the heels for my first newsletter! Red of course! Now you know painting this pair of shoes just made me smile.

First of all let me introduce my red high heels “Stepping Out” (9x12).Other shoes may appear later as painting them gets the toes tapping!

Painting lavender fields is one of my favorite subjects. It doesn't get much better than standing in a field painting “Plein Air” while the sweet lavender perfume wafts about my easel… well maybe the wafting was actually me swatting at bees. This painting is from my Lavender Provence series (20x24).

My next painting is from a trip last spring to the Netherlands. I was thrilled with the color and the rhythm of the fields of flowers. It was simply breathtaking. This is “Dutch White Daffodils” (24x36).

Upcoming events:
I will be out and about Plein Air painting this summer and preparing for two fall shows, dates to follow in my next newsletter. Please feel free to contact me or visit my home/studio.
